Frequently Asked Questions
What sets BFLP apart from other preschools?
For over almost 50 years, BFLP operates as non-profit and a parent-participation preschool, whereby we all rely upon one another to share and fulfill our duties in order for the school to function, develop a sense of community, support our Teachers and to keep our fees affordable for families of all abilities and backgrounds. BFLP is proud to be serving Burnaby and surrounding communities enriched French Immersion Preschool for children.
What is the curriculum like?
We offer a play-based curriculum, which allows children to develop their self-confidence while becoming familiar with the French Language. We also keep our classes small - 15 students to 2 bilingual ECE and ECEA certified teachers - to maximize each child’s interaction with teachers in French.
The play-based approach at BFLP seamlessly integrates free play, table activities, science experiments, arts and crafts, circle time, songs, snack time and outside play into the daily routine. Throughout these activities, a gentle, fun and effective method is employed to facilitate French language learning. Our programming is thoughtfully designed within a nurturing environment to cater the diverse needs of developing children.
Can I see the classroom?
Yes! We will be having Open Houses throughout the school year. Please email registrar@bflp.org for information on dates and times
Is financial assistance available?
Yes! BFLP is currently approved to participate in additional funding with the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI), as such our tuition costs are reflected with our approved funding. In addition, families may be eligible for BC’s Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB), a monthly payment to help with the cost of child care. For more information and to determine your eligibility, please visit: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/family-social-supports/caring-for-young-children/child-care-funding/child-care-benefit
When can I enroll or waitlist my 1-year-old child?
BFLP accepts applications one year in advance, which means you can add your child to the Interest list in September of the year your child turns 2. Children can enter preschool when they are 30 months old, but they must turn 3 years old (36 months) by December 31 of the same year and must be potty trained.
I have inquired but have not heard back yet, what next?
Nearly 100% of all school operations are completed with the help of volunteers dedicating their time to BFLP. With this in mind, we ask for your patience and understanding until a member of our Board of Directors will try their best to respond to your email within 2 weeks.
Does BFLP operate year-round?
No. We closely follow the public school system’s calendar and as such we are closed during winter and spring breaks, statutory holidays, and summer vacations. BFLP does not follow the public school professional days, however, we do encourage and support our Teachers to continue their professional development in early childhood education.
Why do I need to volunteer for BFLP?
BFLP is a non-profit society and values the time and dedication of parent/caregiver volunteers to assist with various operations of the preschool. These volunteer roles include executive Board member positions, cleaning, minor maintenance, publicity, and many more. These volunteer roles require no experience, therefore, volunteers have been able to develop themselves and their abilities while providing a meaningful and positive impact directly to their children’s learning experience and to the community. This is allows the Teachers to focus entirely on the children and the curriculum.
Why do I need to fundraise for BFLP?
As a registered non-profit charity, BFLP relies on donations and fundraising to help keep tuition fees affordable. Fundraising has played a valuable role in minimizing various expenses in our operating budgets, which in return helps keep our tuition fees low and affordable. All families are encouraged to participate in fundraising.
