About Us

In 1975, a group of parents passionate about bringing French Immersion education to Burnaby incorporated a non-profit society under the name Burnaby French Language Playschool. The aim of the society was and still is to provide children with stimulating experiences and to introduce them to the French Language.

In 2013, the Board of Directors created an umbrella name specific to the Preschool program, which is Burnaby French Language Preschool, commonly known as BFLP.  BFLP relies on the generous time and skills from our parent and caregiver volunteering efforts in various operations of the school.  Parents and caregivers contribute their volunteering efforts in areas such as executive Board roles, cleaning, publicity, maintenance, and more. The volunteering aspect as a parent-participation school, has been a means for parents/caregivers to build up their community support systems and local social networks.  The volunteer roles require no experience, therefore, volunteers have been able to develop themselves and their abilities while providing a meaningful and positive impact directly to their children’s learning experience to the community.

Today, BFLP continues to offer enriched French Immersion programs for children of all abilities and backgrounds, this includes families whose first language is not French, and oftentimes not English either.  BFLP programing offers a gentle, fun and effective way for children to learn French at an early age.  We have two certified ECE and ECEA teachers, fluent in both English and French. Our teachers teachers aspire to introduce age appropriate French language comprehension to children of varying learning, physical, and cultural abilities through music, dance, play and other engaging activities. Our programming is thoughtfully designed with a nurturing environment to cater the diverse needs of the developing child. The BFLP play-based approach integrates free play, table activities, science experiments, arts and crafts, circle time, songs, snack time and outside play into the daily routine.

Our overall objective is to provide a safe, happy and stimulating social environment where young children can experience the joys of a creative childhood while developing their self-confidence and increasing their familiarity with the French language.
