In July of 1975, a group of interested parents incorporated a society under the name Burnaby French Language Playschool. The aim of the society is to provide children with stimulating experiences and to introduce them to the French Language.
Highlights include:
- Parent Participation
- Small Classes (15 maximum)
- Bilingual, ECE Qualified Teachers
- Two Teachers per Class
- Play Based Curriculum
- A Central Location
- Social Fun for Children
The playschool experience introduces French vocabulary and encourages learning through music, dance, free play, painting, arts, puppetry, storytelling, sand and water play. Community visits help children understand the world around them. Weather permitting the children partake in an outdoor activity session at the playground.
French is the language spoken by the teachers, while the children communicate in English and advance to spoken French as they feel comfortable. Early comprehension in French is achieved by limiting class size. Teachers are required to have a high standard of training and to enjoy working with children. Parents are encouraged to visit and talk with the teachers who are available for parent/teacher interviews on request.
